November 29: Wellington; November 30 & December 1: Rotorua

We arrived in Wellington in time for a twilight tour, offering this view.

After a day's travel that included the view of Mt. Ruapehu, we arrived in Rotorua in time for  the Hangi, a traditional feast and ceremony of the Maori.

The next morning we went to Rotorua. Shown here are a few of the nineteen varieties of sheep we saw at the Agrodome. This sheep dog seemed to have a different herding technique from those at Walter's Peak.. We also visited the thermal features of Rotorua, including these steampots.

December 1 & 2: Rotorua, continued, and on to Auckland

Continuing on December 1, in the afternoon we hiked Mount Tarawera.

We were then whisked back from mountaintop to Rotorua, encountering more wondrous scenes.

Our last day took us to Auckland for our flight home. Although we didn't get to spend any time in Auckland, we soaked up some more photogenic New Zealand landscape on the way..
